THE future of a popular paddling pool remains in doubt as campaigners continue to call on Kidderminster Town Council to save it from permanent closure.

In 2022, the council said that more than £100,000 was needed to repair the pool at St George's Park to ensure its future.

The council decided to mothball the final decision to allow the local community time to raise the required funds for the work.

A GoFundMe page was launched to raise funds for the pool, and a petition to the town council has received more than 1,600 signatures.

In an update, the council has said that a final decision on the future of the pool has been put on hold until after the upcoming local election.

A spokesperson for the council said: "Any decision on the pool's future will be deferred for consideration by the town council until after the elections in May.

"No further comment to add on this".

Jacqui Penn, an avid campaigner, says her children and grandchildren have all enjoyed the pool and wants her great-grandchildren to be able to use it.

The 72-year-old said: "It's a heritage community pool. It's been there since around 1926 and we have never had a problem before until now.

"It's a free day out for the families there that haven't got a lot of money to spend. It brings a lot of people in from other areas.

"I'm not going to give up on it".

Meanwhile, the 'Save Our Paddling Pool' group will host a family fun event on Saturday, April 6, featuring a parade, refreshments and an Easter trail.
