Residents have slammed a "nightmare" three-month road closure that is causing traffic chaos around the area.

The A448 towards Kidderminster closed on Monday (February 19) for water main replacement works by Severn Trent and is not set to reopen until the middle of May.

The work is being completed under a 24/7 road closure with no through access to Kidderminster from Harvington Hall Lane and Dobes Lane causing anger amongst residents who have taken to social media to voice their concerns.

Resident Philip Bentley said: "I know this work has to be done, but getting around Kidderminster is an absolute nightmare."

Kelly Marie Crankshaw said: "Just another delightful road closure to deal with, I might as well stay home for the next 6 months."

Another resident, Karen Evans, added: "It's going to be a right pain."

The scheme is being completed under a full road closure as work was abandoned in May 2023 when a road worker was seriously injured after being hit by a vehicle.

Severn Trent has apologised for any inconvenience caused by the work and said that the company "understands the upset caused by roadworks and diversions".

The team also held a public meeting at Chaddesley Corbett Village Hall last week to answer questions from those in the local area.

In a statement reacting to comments from residents, Worcestershire County Council said: "The County Council acknowledges there are a lot of roadworks, all of which are important for the long term, and thank the public for their patience and understanding.

"The Council always seeks to plan and manage roadworks to minimise delays to motorists and the most disruptive works are generally planned for periods when traffic is reduced. It is not always possible however to do this, with some works needing to be completed at the earliest opportunity."
