Bewdley bridge has now fully reopened after work was suspended for the Christmas period.

Worcestershire County Council announced that the bridge would be open in both directions in an update on X, formerly known as Twitter, this morning (Thursday, December 21).

The council said: "Bewdley bridge is now fully open in both directions until January 2 2024 following the suspension of the Environment Agency Midlands flood risk management works for the Christmas period."

The bridge has been closed due to ongoing construction work for the new flood defences in Beales Corner.

The area has been affected by rising river levels in recent years and after the flooding in 2020, funding was made available by the government for impacted communities.

This enabled the Environment Agency to consider a flood risk management scheme for the Beales Corner area of Bewdley with the new defences aimed at protecting homes in the town and keeping the main roads open during times of flooding.
