A PLAN to build new homes on green belt land near Kidderminster has been approved.

The plan will see four new detached homes built off Caunsall Road, in the hamlet of Caunsall.

The site lies within the green belt, but is included in the council's development plan policy.

The application was put before Wyre Forest District's Council's planning committee following a recommendation for refusal by Wolverley and Cookley Parish Council.

This was on the grounds of traffic congestion, fears over an adverse impact on the environment, including the loss of green space, and concerns it would be an "overdevelopment."

The application also received 14 objections on the council's planning portal website.

The application site lies next to an existing residential development to the east, west and south, with open paddock land to the north.

During the planning meeting on Tuesday (November 14), councillor Marcus Hart said: "I've got some sympathy with some of the local residents - but it's allocated.

"It would be a modest development within the hamlet of Caunsall and there is an argument that we should have modest development in such areas for the sustainability of the local area".

The planning committee unanimously decided to approve the application at the meeting.
