HISTORIC wooden street signs in Bewdley have been temporarily removed from the walls of houses for conservation.
The signs, which can be seen on the walls of houses around the town, were deteriorating badly.
The Bewdley Civic Society, known for its interest in preserving the historic aspects of the town, organized the removal in order to restore them.
Luckily, the society had a member who was not only knowledgeable about Bewdley's history but also a regular conservationist at the Hartlebury Museum.
Jim Parker, who was brought up in a Bewdley house that was once a Royal Palace, volunteered his skills to restore the signs.
One restored sign points to the historic 'Old Pals Centre', which was converted into residential use.
Before its conversion, the center provided a refuge for Bewdley soldiers returning from the First World War.
It allowed them to share their experiences with others who had similarly served, providing a support network for those suffering from post-traumatic stress.
